Board Members

President – Leslie Swan

Leslie and her husband, Dave, have lived in Mission Viejo since 2010. They have two children – their son is a Senior while their daughter is a Freshman at Capistrano Valley High School. Leslie has been actively volunteering in CUSD schools since moving to Mission Viejo. She held various Executive Board positions on the Castille Elementary PTA in the 9 years that her children attended the school, and this is her fourth year on the CVHS Foundation Board. Leslie received her Bachelor of Arts from The University of San Diego. Since graduating, she has has worked in several fields including communications, training and development, and pharmaceutical sales. Her career is now focused on residential real estate in Orange County. In addition to volunteering, Leslie believes in giving back to schools through her business and offers an education donation program that has donated over $25,000 to Capistrano Unified Schools.

Secretary – Irene Palatics

Irene and her husband, Bryn, have lived in Mission Viejo for 22 years. They have two children; their son is a Capo graduate, and their daughter is a senior. Irene was President of Reilly Elementary’s PTA, held various Board positions, organized school wide events at both Reilly and Newhart, and now serves as Capo’s PTSA Vice President. Irene was appointed by Trustee Judy Bullockus to be a member of the District’s Instructional Materials Review Committee.  She also volunteers for the City of Mission Viejo weekly at the Mission Viejo Library bookstore and in their Amazon Department as well as with the Mission Viejo Activities Committee.  Irene received an Honors Bachelor’s degree in History and English from The University of Toronto, a Bachelor’s of Education from The University of Toronto, and a Masters Degree in History from McMaster University.  She was a History and English teacher before moving to California from Toronto, Canada.

MEMBERS AT LARGE

Michelle Jackson

Michelle and her husband James have lived in Mission Viejo since 2002. They have three children- Jake, a junior in college, Max, a senior and Kate, a freshman in high school. Michelle has been actively involved in her children’s schools for the past 15 years, serving on PTA boards at Newhart and Castille and on the Castille Booster board, and chairing many programs and events at the elementary level. Michelle received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from CSU, Chico, and her teaching credential from CSU, East Bay. She taught second and third grade in the Burlingame School District for 8 years before relocating to Southern California. Michelle is currently a substitute teacher for CUSD and the Sunshine School Preschool.

Janet Lazatin

Janet and her husband, Ron, have lived in Mission Viejo since 1996. Three of her children have already graduated from Capo Valley High School and her fourth and final child is a freshman at Capo Valley this fall of 2019. Her eldest, Lauren, graduated from Biola University with a degree in elementary education. Her daughter, Alyssa, attends UC Santa Barbara and plays on the softball team for UCSB. Her son, Kyle, is attending Baylor University in Texas majoring in religion. Janet has been actively involved in volunteering in CUSD schools since 2002. She has served on the executive boards of Castille PTA, Castille Booster Club, Newhart PTA, and now CVHS Foundation. She has volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for her  daughters and well as several school athletic booster clubs for each of her children. She has a B.S. in Finance from Long Beach State.  Janet has worked in the accounting field in the consumer electronics field, real estate, and investment banking and is currently the accountant at Mount of Olives Church in Mission Viejo.
